Christmas season is officially upon us! Which means more parties, winter wonderlands and Christmas lights at every corner. However, all the stress and strains during the festive period can all catch up. That’s why we’ve put together our top tips to stay safe and vigilant.

Decoration Safety

Fairy lights, tinsels, Christmas trees and novelties are a must this time of year. However, be sure to buy lights which meet EU safety standards, don’t let children play with lights and keep décor away from fire or any other heated outlets.

It’s also vital you don’t leave candles unattended – this can cause a huge fire and loss if not handled well.

Remain cautious of trailing cables and wires, always read instructions and be wary to not slip and trip.

Shopping Safety

Black Friday, Boxing Day or just general shopping for Christmas gifts can be super stressful. Be careful to watch out for thefts in crowded environments, as criminals can swiftly pickpocket valuables.

When shopping online, make sure the website is legitimate and secure. Try not to use public Wi-Fi’s and try paying with a credit card. It’s easy to become a victim of bank fraud, so be sure to protect yourself.

Party (but safely)

During the festive season, most people will be celebrating in pubs, clubs and restaurants. It’s essential you stay close to your friends, have travel arrangements made beforehand and be careful of what you are drinking. Stay away from drugs and don’t leave drinks unattended at all.

Home Safety

Always leave the light on when you’re not at home. Keep presents and discarded shopping boxes out of sight. Don’t advertise your holiday on social media.

Road Safety

During the cold months, make sure all car parts are not defected and safe to use. Always check road conditions before setting out, especially for long drives.

Don’t drink and drive – be aware of how much alcohol you are consuming and use public transport or taxis when you are unable to drive.
